How many PCs can I backup on an account
You can backup an unlimited number of PCs on your account. Computers are backed up using a Backup Client. You can have as many Backup Clients as required.
Each Backup Client has a unique Username/Password pair. It can only be installed on one computer (the 'backup computer'). The Backup Client can backup up to 9 other devices which can be any combination of notebook, PC, server or Network Attached Storaage (NAS). We recommend you use a seperate Backup Client for each computer you wish to backup for security and recovery reasons.
To add a new backup client to your account enter the customer area and select 'Add New Client'.

Installation errors related to security Important
Most computers in a business environment will have security measures to protect your system. Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems (OS) can be configured to disable the installation of software and restrict access to files and folders. If you need to logon to your system with a username/password then one or more of the following issues will often be encountered.
1. Installation - If you get an error installing the the backup client software it may need to be installed by a user with elevated privileges ie a 'Power User' or 'Administrator'.
2. File and folder access - You may find that certain files and folders are inaccessable for backup. The logon account used to perform the backup must have sufficient privaleges to read/modify the files or folders included in the backup.
3. Internet access - The user account used to perform the backup must have internet access during the backup/restore process.
4. Firewall and Proxy - Modification may be required to allow the backup client to connect to our backup servers.
Please don't struggle with a problem, our support staff will be able to resolve most issues in just a few minutes.

Requirements for the Backup computer
|
Operating System: |
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows ME
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows 2003
|
|
Internet connection:
|
Modem or other networking hardware
|
|
Hardware: |
Pentium class processor
32 MB RAM minimum
15 MB Disk Space for program files
Additional space is required for processing selected backup files.
|
Notes:
1. The backup cache (see How it works) requires approximately 2.5 times the size of the files that have change in the last 7 days (default setting). The backup cache can be located on any drive but we recommend keeping it on the same physical computer for performance reasons.
2. The performance of the backup client during the creation of the backup files is affected primarily by the speed of the CPU and the amount of free memory available. ie the more the better. The transfer rate is solely dependant on your internet connection speed.
3. If you have a choice install the Backup Client on a newer computer rather than an old one as it is more likely to have better performance and reliability. This is particularly important if your backup includes a large numbers of files changing between backups or if any of the files are large (>100MB).

How do I backup several PC's in a small office network
Please also read Requirements for the backup computer.
If you keep the data from all your PC's on one computer you could install the Backup Client on that computer. Only one Backup Client is required.
If your data is stored on several PC's then there a number of combinations:
- Install the backup Client on one PC and backup the computers using network shares. The disadvantage is that all the other computers must be turned on during the backup and all data to be protected must be available via these network shares. There will also be a small charge for each computer in addition to the Storage Plan you have selected.
- Install a Backup Client on each PC. This has advantages from an installation, security and recovery perspective but also disadvantages in higher maintenance and also backup charges.
