How to Configure your Backup Client Connection
|
|
|
This article assumes you have a working internet connection through which you can browse the Internet and send/receive Internet email. If you cannot do the above then the fault is with your internet connection.
Fault: When you perform a backup the following message is displayed
Solution:
Start the NovaNet-Web Client and from the top menu by selecting View, Options, General to open the Configure General Options screen.
1. Select the Destination Tab.
Enter the Server Name or IP address and Server Port provided by DataBak.
Select "Specify Credentials for Authentication" and enter your DataBak Username and Password
(Tip: Do not use the email address and password you use for the DataBak website nor your ISP username and password)
2. Connection tab.
The NovaNet-Web Client will normally connect to the Internet using the same method you use for your Web Browser or Email Client. This will either be via your LAN (Local Area Network) or using your existing Dial-up connection. (Tip: Check your Web Browser's existing connection method)
LAN connection (Default Setting)
Usually found in an office environment where a Proxy Server or Router is used.
De-select "Connect to the server using Dial-Up Networking"
If you use a Firewall you may need to ask your network administrator to configure the Firewall to allow outbound connections from TCP ports 1025 - 5000 with a destination port of 308 and optionally destination IP address of 87.194.187.7 (TCP is the only protocol used).
Dial-Up Networking Connection:
This is the most common connection type for small business, home and laptop users.
The first tick box must be selected
Selecting the 2nd tick box is highly recommended (especially if you pay for your telephone calls to the internet)
De-selecting the 3rd tick box is recommended unless you experience problems. De-selecting will cause the internet connection to always close after the backup is finished.
Select your existing ISP (Internet Service Provider) Dial-up Networking connection from the drop down list.
Enter the username and password that your ISP has supplied to connect to the internet. (Tip: This may be different from the Username and Password you use for collecting Email.)
De-select the 4th tick box as you can only connect to the backup server via the internet.
Leave the "Optional phone number" and "Domain" fields blank.
3. Test your connection and check for upgrades
Select the 'Other' tab and click "Perform upgrade now!" which will cause a connection to be made to the DataBak server via your internet connection. If you are still having problems please raise a Support Request.
