Recovery of file versions
Just having the last backup of a file does not provide protection against data loss. The last backup is only a mirror of your data which if corrupted might only result in the recovery of a corrupted file.
DataBak enables the recovery of previous file versions so that you can recover data as it was before the problem occurred.
Example: Information was deleted from the customer database 8 days ago, the backup of the database prior to the deletion was restored and the missing information re-entered into the current database.
You can define how long to keep file versions. By default this is set to 7 days but can be set to keep only the last version (0 days) or up to a maximum of 90 days. Note increasing this setting may increase the amount of storage you use. For more information see Technical notes.

24/7 Data Recovery to any Computer
Using either the backup client software or Web Restore you can restore any number of files, folders or your entire system to the original PC or to any other computer.
If the backup client software is not already installed on the computer, download and install it from the DataBak web site or using a web browser go to the DataBak web site, login to the customer area and select Web Restore. Enter the appropriate computer account username and password and download the list of backup files available. Select the backup date you wish to restore (by default the last backup date is selected) and select any files, folder or drives to be restored. Click restore button, select where to restore the files and recovery of your data starts instantly.
Example: Last minute changes were made to a tender document on a notebook in the airport departure lounge and backed up via cell phone before the flight. On arrival at the customers office our user discovered he had left his notebook in the taxi.. He used Web Restore on the customers PC to instantly recover and print the tender just in time for his presentation to the Board.
Example: The RAID card on a large file server failed and a replacement would not arrive for several days. The most important data was recovered directly to a spare PC so that business could continue and the remaining 60Gb of data was transferred to a hard disk by DataBak and sent overnight by express delivery to the customer. The drive was received and installed into the PC by 9:30am the next morning.

Faster Data Backup and File Recovery
DataBak uses advanced backup technology to protect and manage your data. Only the changes to your data are required unlike traditional backup , which requires all of the data to be backed up each time. This means less storage capacity is required and backups take considerably less time to complete.
Example; A 200 Mb customer database file is updated on a regular basis during the day and typically only 100 or so records are added or modified between backups. Without our backup technology the backup file is 53Mb but with our backup technology the backup file is only 0.4Mb (Compressed to 99.8%).

Backup Sets
You can create an unlimited number of backup sets. Since backup sets can be scheduled to run independently, a user can configure multiple backup sets to run at different times.
Example; a backup set containing all data files can be configured to run at the end of each day and another backup set containing a single database file can be configured to run multiple times per day. All file versions will still be immediately available for the user to restore.

Backup Scheduling
Scheduling options enable you to automate the backup process, ensuring that the user data is backed up on a regular basis without requiring user intervention. Users can configure backups at any time, multiple times per day or even before Windows Shut Down. Additionally, any third party scheduling application can be used to run the backup application by scheduling simple command line calls to run an automated backup.

File Filters
Filters can be created and modified to include or exclude files by type or using wildcards. There are 6 predefined filters which can be modified to suit your requirements.
Example: Apply the 'Include Documents' filter to your C drive to backup all your Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint files or the 'Exclude Graphics' to remove all graphics files from a backup set.

Email Notifications
The client software can be configured to send an e-mail to any user(s) upon any successful backup or a backup with errors or warnings. A summary of the attempt is sent in the body of the message and the complete log file may be attached as an option.
Our Data centre monitors all backup activity and will notify the user if there is a problem or backups are missed.

Log File Review and Printing
All backup and restore transactions are thoroughly logged on the client. The user can quickly review and print the client logs from the client application.

Configurable 3rd Party Tools
Supports the ability to run any 3rd party application(s) before or after a backup or restore action. For instance it can be configured to run a virus scanner before the backup and run a defragmentation utility after the backup. A virus scanner can also be configured to run after every restore process.

CPU Utilization
Since our backup technology leverages the CPU power to get the great file reductions, it can be taxing on the processor. Since some backups are done while the user is working on the system and some backups are done after hours when the user is away, we allow the CPU utilization to be configured. Users can give the backup application all the processing power it needs, or make the backup application subordinate to other tasks.
